Assault into the Mediscare ambush
Fight fear with facts. And when appropriate, bring your mother.
Medicare and Social Security can be saved. They can even be improved upon, without diminishing their reliability. But you can't do it by pretending that they can go on forever, or even more than a small handful of years, without major structural changes.
We need to have this debate. We're glad to have this debate. And we will win it, not just because we have the better debaters — and now, we finally do — but because we have the truth.

If you're mystified by my title, watch this clip of Bill Kristol on last weekend's Fox News Sunday:
The Democratic assault [on Ryan and entitlement reform] is going to be huge and brutal. But I got an email — and shouldn't be minimized. But I got an email from a good friend, Tom Cotton, who served as an infantry officer in Iraq and then again in Afghanistan, he's the Republican nominee for Congress in the Fourth District of Arkansas and is gonna win that race, I believe. And he said one thing he'd learned as an Army officer is: In a near ambush, turn into the fire and assault through the ambush....
A near ambush is one in which the enemy is already close upon you and within hand grenade range. Infantry who are in the ambush's "kill zone" are trained to assault into the ambush instantly, even without being given specific new orders to that effect. Others, from outside the "kill zone," can support or join them as ordered.

Dear Mr. Dyer: I'm still uneasy. This is not war, this is not an ambush. This is candidates talking to the public. The notion that the Democrats "ambushed" R&R is silly. Everyone could see this coming--and if R&R didn't they deserve to lose. You are bang right that Ryan has the facts at hand, and the presence of mind not to get rattled. You are also bang right that Romney made the informed choice to move the campaign in this direction. It's a direction the country needs to move toward. But the underlying problem of a sick, sluggish economy, and why it is so needs to be hammered. i wish I heard Ryan saying "Looking at the gap between The Won's promise and performance, how does he think we can pay for Medicare etc etc? The choking of the economy and of our freedoms by The Won is the biggest point in the campaign.
Sincerely yours,
Gregory Koster
PS--Why not post that graphic where you had your Ryan endorsement/
