CNN: Ayers and Obama jointly planned kick-off of Obama's political career at Ayers' home

This is an amazing piece of video โ€” not least because of its source. I think I've managed to successfully embed it in an otherwise wordless guest-post at HughHewitt.com, whose website mechanics make such postings kind of iffy, but if you can't see it either here or there, try this link.

Obama has previously maintained that he wasn't directly involved in scheduling the kick-off for his state senate campaign at Ayers' home, but that that was instead something arranged by Alice Palmer, the Chicago politician he was hoping to succeed. This piece refutes that claim and supports the notion that Obama and Ayers made those arrangements jointly themselves. But beyond that small addition to the factual matrix, this report generally does a fair and good job in presenting both sides' arguments and the objective evidence โ€” including that which explodes the Obama campaign's consistent and dishonest efforts to minimize the length and depth of the relationship between Ayers and Obama.

Why can no one utter the "C" word ["Communist"] in relation to the Ayers-Obama story? Granted, "terrorist" carries more weight today, but it is indisputable that the Weatherman were a Communist organization that sought to overthrow the United States government. In my view, hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Americans wanted us to get out of Vietnam, but only a handful wanted to overthrow the government. So it's disingenuous to tag Ayers and Dohrn with the "anti-war" label -- they were actively fighting for our enemies!

Ask Bill Ayers today if he is a Communist, and he will say, "Yes, with a small 'c'". Can someone please ask Obama if he believes in the communist principles that Bill Ayers continues to espouse to this day? This isn't about Ayers-when-Obama-was-8, it's about Bill Ayers, modern subversive.

bbbeard, you're right that Ayers is to the left of mere socialists, irrespective of whether capital- or lower-case letters are used. He's been a violent revolutionary, and is still preaching revolution while not apologizing for his own past violence. Communist? Anarchist? Both could fit. Neither label has the moral or political power today that it did in the mid-20th Century, though, and it is that combination of ignorance and amnesia upon which Obama relies in expecting the public not to revolt against his candidacy notwithstanding his ties to Ayers.

Hi Bill,

If you can stand to read it: Bill Ayers posted a long, rambling remembrance about the Weather Underground on his blog:

Unfiltered Bill Ayers is pretty strong stuff....

Anderson Cooper did his best to shield Obama but Drew Griffin didn't bite. Good for Griffin, and I hope McCain-Palin can capitalize on this.
