Single most clueless media "attack" on Gov. Palin's credentials
For the same day of the announcement, the Utterly Clueless "I'm a troll who lives inside the Beltway and could not possibly survive for 12 hours if abandoned in any red-state city for 24 hours" Award goes to Jonathan Martin at the Politico (boldface mine):
Palin, 44, is less than two years removed from being mayor of Wasilla, Alaska; has no military or foreign policy experience in a time of grave international threat; and has never even appeared a single time on "Meet the Press," let alone been scrutinized by a voracious and around-the-clock modern media beast.
Because, ya know, Chuck Hagel has been on "Meet the Press" lots of times.
Second-place runner-up "Some of the People All of the Time" awards go to all those who've seriously argued that Barack Obama's comparative lack of political accomplishment is irrelevant because, after all, he's managed to run a successful campaign for the nomination of his party. This point of view envisions America as a kind of perpetual Hell in which Bill Clinton, or whoever can best emulate his slickest and most insincere qualities, forever reigns supreme. The notion that "I can get elected, therefore I deserve more than anyone else to be elected" is profoundly sick.

On FoxNews Special Report last night (transcript not yet posted), Bill Kristol slapped down Mort Kondrake for making essentially the same argument. Kristol said that this type of inside-the-beltway condescension was proof positive that McCain made the correct choice.
Kristol concluded with the Jonathon Martin nonsense quoted above.
McCain should find the video exchange and convert it to an internet ad -- nothing more need be said.

Call me crazy, but I have some confidence that the majority of Americans will, when faced with the argument "hey, running a successful primary campaign is MUCH more important and impressive than being a governor of a state", react with a well-deserved "WTF?"
Plus, for a hope-changitude kind of campaign, it's damn interesting how crazy the nutroots go when McCain picks a true Washington outsider. "But, but, but *sputter*, she's never even been on Meet the Press!" Give me a freaking break.

Winning a primary is decent evidence that the candidate has the kind of knowledge and judgment that we use experience as a proxy for.
That's the point of the noting that he's won a campaign. We know Palin has won campaigns in Alaska, which tells us that she loves pork and supports drilling in ANWR. Beyond that, not so much.

And when she eventually does go on Meet The Press, the donks can raise the bar and say. "Well, she was never on with Tim Russert." No cred for poor Sarah.
I am donating to McCain today. I am certain this country is going to start to love Sarah Palin when they get to know her.
While watching her yesterday, I just kept thinking that she has natural sincerity and a certain genuine niceness. Those are two virtues Hillary, despite professional training, will never, ever have.

No, it isn't. It's what you fall back on when you've got nothing else to say about yourself.
Not to mention you destroy your own credibility in the next paragraph. Barack's primary win shows he's qualified to be president, but Palin's election win just shows what a low-down dirty panderer she is? Are you insane?
Oh. Right.

What elections has she won, Linus? Bottom line is that Obama has the judgment and knowledge that a capable president needs. Millions upon millions of people agreed with that.
I don't doubt that Palin has the understanding and judgment to run a state the size of Milwaukee, and the voters of AK agreed; but what does that have to do with this?
Thanks in advance for not missing the point this time.

"What elections has she won, Linus?"
Gosh, now that you mention it, I can't think of one. Oh, wait, didn't she win one for Governor of our 57th state, Alaska?
As for missing the point, what exactly is yours? That because Obama won a PRIMARY (which is not an election), voted on by DEMOCRATS, he is ipso facto qualified to be president? Tell me, please, which Democratic Presidential candidate of the last 150 years did NOT win the primary and become his party's candidate for the general election? What's that? The only way to become the Democratic nominee is to win the primary? Good hell, man, that's classic "begging the question". How is he qualified? Because he was nominated. Why was he nominated? Because he is qualified.
This kind of mental and logical gymnastics is only required for some so bereft of real-world accomplishment as Mr. Obama. If he had anything substantive to point to as an accomplishment, his supporters, like you, would be trumpeting that.
Keep polishing this turd, though, I'm sure it'll shine up real good by November.

Friend, you've demonstrated your ignorance in a very embarrassing way. Had you even bothered to read my very first post on Gov. Palin, or any other detailed information about her actual performance as governor, you'd know better:
This spring she used her line-item veto to cut $268 million from state spending bills — in a state that, comparatively, is flush with money, which makes pork projects almost irresistible. She resisted, and it appears that she's going to make her vetoes stick. That's the antidote to Bridges to Nowhere! (Which she opposed, by the way; the federal money originally committed to it, she's now re-directed into more appropriate infrastructure programs.)
Gov. Palin doesn't just talk the talk about fiscal responsibility. Rather, in a state with overflowing government coffers where business as usual has been for politicians to line their own and their allies' pockets at the expense of the taxpayer, she's walked the walk. That's 268,000,000 good qualifications to be on a national ticket, in my opinion.
Do your homework. Then if you want to engage in civil discussion here, you're welcome to try again.

Beldar, there was anothe egregious error in that Jonathon Martin post. She's NOT less than two years removed from being mayor; she was appointed to the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission as ethics director in 2003. So unless I'm missing something, it's been six years since she was mayor, and she's been a little busy since then.
This is a simple out-and-out factual error made by someone purporting to be part of a scrutinizing, around-the-clock media beast. But it's Sarah Palin who's supposed to be worried? We're supposed to believe that it's Sarah Palin and not the press who won't do the homework? Please.

Everybody knows that your suitability for public office is based on how many autobiographies you've written.
