RE: | Vice President Cheney |
Sally, it's been three full months now since the WaPo's "blockbuster series" about him, but your big scoop — that senior Republicans were plotting ways to force Vice-President Dick Cheney's immediate resignation, in favor of former Sen. Fred Thompson — hasn't come true yet.
Do you think it's time to consider a retraction? Or would you rather wait until January 2009?

Maybe, Sally Quinn is just running a test,to see if anyone remembers 3 months' old "predictions?"
Maybe, she fired her gypsy?

All that the article said is that some Republicans were dreaming about Cheney resigning. The failure of Cheney to resign does not disprove this. No more than the failure to achieve victory in Iraq disproves that some Republicans are dreaming of victory.

Mr. Shearer, Quinn's op-ed claimed considerably more than just that some Republicans were dreaming. But if you discounted the actual words down to that, you were wise to do so. Me, I discounted them down considerably farther, to the level of being an absolutely silly fantasy — a figment of her "inside the beltway" imagination.

"The big question right now among Republicans is how to remove Vice President Cheney from office."
I know I'm getting old, so my eyesight must be failing me. Where's the word "resign" in that sentence?
